Dear Parents,

Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year. This year's course of study promises to engage your student with investigative units that will teach mathematical techniques and empower your student to be a competent mathematical thinker. I am looking forward to meeting and working with each of you as well as having a great year.

Supplies:

Materials that will help you be successful in class are:

- 3-ring 1' binder to be used for math only

- Composition Book

-Graph paper for homework when needed

You may print FREE graph paper from http://www.printfreegraphpaper.com

- Regular Pencils or Mechanical Pencils with extra lead

- Eraser

- Ballpoint pen (NOT felt tip)

- Pouch for all supplies

- Twelve or six inch ruler (cm and inches)

- Scientific calculator (the Dollar Store often times has them, as does Big Lots)

The Texas Instrument 30, 34, or 36 is also recommended.

Discipline:

I believe most students do their best to act appropriately in the classroom. Any behavior problems will be handled as stated in the student handbook handed out at registration.

  • Tests will be given at the end of each unit.
  • Students who score below a 70% on any test can retake the test.In order to retake the test students need to complete a supplemental assignment and arrange with myself to take the test before or after school or at lunch.Class time will not be taken up with retakes.

Extra Help:

I will be available during lunch time (except Fridays). I am more than happy to help with homework or reviewing to make sure that your child is ready for tests or quizzes. • All assignments must be corrected in pen.
  • Revised assignments must be turned in prior to taking the unit test. Grades are not based upon effort. Students are expected to master the California State Standards.

Absences:

For an excused absence, you get ONE day for each day you are absent to turn in your work.

  • For example, if you are absent on Tuesday you must turn in Monday’s homework when you return on Wednesday. You will need to turn in Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s homework on Friday.
  • If you miss a test you must make it up the first day when you return to school.
