During the Craftsmanship Awards ceremony, Jennifer Mallia received the innovation award for creating a traditional Maltese clock (tal-lira) with a difference – using ceramics instead of wood.

The Maltese clock is not found in many homes. In the past it was considered an ornament of the rich. Jennifer Mallia wants the clock to find its place in Maltese homes. In March, Jennifer had to close her workplace in Qormi due to the pandemic. During this time, she worked on a traditional Maltese clock using ceramics.
“I had a lot of time. We were inside and I used that time. Let’s just say that I didn’t waste time. I used work on this everyday, always learning different things,” she explained.
As a result of this, she won the prize for the most innovative product in glass and ceramics at the Malta Craftsmanship Award.

Tenor Calleja will perform favorite classics like Maria, You’ll Never Walk Alone and Amazing Grace from his most recent album “The Magic of Mantovanni” and other excerpts like Recondita Armonia and E Lucevan le Stelle by Puccini.

The concert, produced by NNG Promotions in collaboration with the Malta Tourism Authority, Bank of Valletta and Heritage Malta, will be delivered from venues such as Mdina, the Grand Harbour,Ggantija temples, the Curia, churches and basilicas.
Joseph Calleja said that during this extraordinary year he wanted to give back something extraordinary that showcased the rich history and beauty of Malta.
The concert will be broadcast on Television Malta at Christmas in the afternoon.
